She credits her biggest inspiration—her mother—for fueling her dreams and supporting her through the challenges of pursuing a career in Hollywood. Now, as a rising talent with a growing portfolio, Daisy Close is a name to watch in the film and television industry.
Can you share a bit about your background and where your love for acting began?
Absolutely! I would like to start this interview off by saying thank you to NY Weekly Post and to all your readers for having me and showing interest in my story. My love for acting began as a child in Texas. Growing up as an only child often led me to create my own source of imagination and entertainment, whether it was writing stories and acting them out in front of all of my stuffed animals in my room or falling in love with various films and rewatching them until all of my favorite parts were memorized by heart. My mother saw my deep love and adoration for acting and the performing arts and enrolled me in many community theatre productions and lessons, and I’ve been acting not only on stage but also on TV and in films ever since.

What was your very first acting experience—on stage or screen—and how did it shape you?
My very first acting experience was when I was around four years old, and it was at my local community theatre for a production of an American Girl Doll story, and I remember playing one of the lead dolls all dressed up in a frilly and puffy yellow dress, sipping tea with a horrendous British accent alongside my castmates on stage. I would do anything to see a tape of that performance! It shaped me in many ways as an actress because it not only showed me that performing was my passion, but it also showed me all of the things I wanted to improve and work on to become the best I can be at my craft. I knew it was my purpose because I felt such a drive and determination, like never before, to push myself to become better.
Were there any defining moments or people in your life who inspired you to pursue acting?
I’ve had some special and surreal moments in my life and career so far for sure, but I wouldn’t say necessarily any defining moments. I feel like I was the type of kid who always knew who they were and who they wanted to become. The hardest part about having such a straightforward and goal-oriented mindset like that is the pressure I often put on myself to make those childhood dreams of mine come true. There’s nothing more I want than to make my younger self proud and achieve all of the dreams she and also present-day me want to accomplish within my life. So many people have inspired me throughout my life not only to pursue acting and a career in entertainment but just in general. My childhood wasn’t the easiest growing up; my family faced many challenges, and I watched my mother, whom I love so much, suffer for so long. That really
broke my heart but also inspired me to make a testament to myself to make all my dreams come true one day not only for myself but so I can give my mom the life she has always dreamed of and deserves more than any person I know. My mom is my biggest inspiration. She carries herself with so much strength despite all of the obstacles she’s had to overcome in her life. She truly is a superhero to me. She has this fire in her heart and this resilience to stay positive and never give up. I always give credit to my mom because I know a lot of my mindset was created by her speaking wisdom and words of encouragement into me since I was young. I’ve witnessed a lot of people come and go in my life and especially in my career field, where it’s often difficult to have others believe in your dreams as much as you do because your dreams might be seen as far-fetched and unrealistic, but I’m thankful to my amazing mother and all those who have stood by my side through the good times and bad, never doubting myself or my talents. Their belief and support mean more than words can ever say. Their never-ending love is quite literally the best gift I could ever ask for. I love all of my family and friends dearly. My biggest inspiration and motivation every day is making them and myself proud.
What’s your process like when stepping into a new character?
That’s also a really good question. As an actress, our jobs are very mentally and physically demanding, so I always try to clear my head and remain in a good headspace to prepare before taking on a new role. Of course, every actor has their own way to prepare prior to breaking down a new role, but I like to completely remove myself from any distractions and immerse myself in the shoes and the world of the character I am preparing to step into. I channel my thoughts, senses, energy, and everything in and around me to how the character would think, act, and feel in that moment. I remain present with myself in hindsight of who I am trying to become. I keep the parts of myself that I feel can relate to my character grounded, and I use the parts that are different as a guide to how I can channel myself into my character to make all of me feel more alive in my work.

How do you mentally prepare for emotionally intense or challenging roles?
I mentally prepare for emotionally intense or challenging roles starting with a clear headspace so I can allow myself to access those vulnerable and emotional parts of the character with ease and in a natural and comfortable state of mind. I find ways to connect to the role and what they are going through that is making them feel, think, or say those thoughts and feelings, and I lean into my own senses of how I would portray those same thoughts and feelings, all while keeping in mind what makes this character different than me. I like to put a part of myself into my roles because that’s what makes the character authentic to me. I always make sure to detach my character from myself after rehearsing or filming, especially if it’s a rather emotionally intense or
challenging scene, afterwards by filtering my mind and doing things like taking a walk, listening to music, or closing my eyes and deep breathing until I feel like I’m back to just being me. It takes some time to disconnect and connect, but it’s time well spent to make sure your mental health as an actor stays your number one priority.
Which of your roles has been the most personal or transformative for you?
That’s a good question! If I had to choose one, I would have to pick my role as Nina Rosario in the In The Heights stage adaptation to be both the most personal and transformative for me. I felt like I related and had a very personal connection to the role, as I had gone through similar struggles she had faced and gone through throughout the course of the musical, being American-Peruvian and also often struggling with my finances growing up. Growing up, just like Nina, there was so much pressure to become successful one day because I saw what my life could look like if I wasn’t. To this day I often catch myself putting unnecessary pressure on my shoulders, but now that I’m older, I’m more mature and quicker to notice and shake it off with a strong head on my shoulders and a driven mindset to work hard and have faith in my hard work eventually paying off one day.
How do you handle fame and public attention while staying true to your craft?
When I was younger, I definitely was more starry-eyed about fame and attention than I feel like I am now. I didn’t understand the negative aspects of fame and attention, such as having your privacy or personal life violated or feeling like everything you do was being looked at and judged under a microscope of some sort. Throughout the years I’ve had to deal with much criticism that comes with the attention and publicity, and through that I’ve had to develop thick skin to not let others opinions or thoughts get the best of me. There are also many amazing things about my career, including the added benefit of inspiration that I am able to offer so many others, but especially children, through my work and what I do best. I try to just focus on the positive and use my platform and voice as a way to inspire others positively to also follow their dreams and do the things their heart desires. I think everyone needs a voice or a reminder like that nowadays. The world is a harsh place now, but especially now more than ever. We are constantly being told what we can’t do or what we’ll never accomplish, and I just want to be an inspiration to others to do what makes them happy and what makes them feel fulfilled because I believe ultimately that is our purpose. Life is short, so why spend another minute doing something that isn’t meant for you or isn’t bringing you the joy and redemption you deserve? I’ve always said I’d rather live my life chasing my dreams until my last breath instead of wondering what would have happened if I never tried. A dream is one of, if not the best things we can give ourselves in this lifetime. It gives us a reason to be better, a purpose to get up in the morning, and a life to live that is filled with so much wonder and creativity.

What do you love most about the film and television industry today?
I love the diversity and representation being shown now more than ever in the film and television industry today. Being American-Peruvian as a little girl, I often felt misplaced or like I didn’t know where I stood or belonged. I rarely saw mixed actresses like me on screen, and now that there’s so much diversity and so many actresses like me every day on so many platforms, it makes my heart so happy. Not only for younger me, but for all the little girls out there who are just like me growing up in this generation. We still have a ways to go in terms of diversity and representation being shown in the film and television industry today, but we’ve come a long way, and for that I’m proud.
Are there any changes you’d like to see in how stories are told or who gets represented?
Absolutely! I was just touching on this subject, but I’d love for more cultural aspects to be shown when representing other cultures stories, from their ancestry to their traditions and customs. I believe their culture deserves to be entirely represented, from the clothes they wear down to the music they listen to or the food they consume. I believe details are key when authentically representing someone’s heritage and home.
What’s one behind-the-scenes moment you’ll never forget?
My most memorable behind-the-scenes moment would have to be filming season two of Landman. Since season two has not been released yet, I’m unable to share specific details, but it was a very memorable experience for me because it was one of my first times being able to experience what it was like to be a working actress on a high-scale set. Just being able to be in the room where it happens, taking in the glitz and glam of it all, felt so surreal and magical to me.
Which co-star or director has had the biggest impact on you professionally?
I would have to say my instructor and director from The Juilliard School has had the biggest impact on me professionally. She has taught me so many techniques and valuable lessons that I find myself applying each and every time I step into an audition, rehearsal, or performance. I am very thankful for the knowledge I have learned and obtained from The Juilliard School. I will never forget any of the amazing instructors and people I have met during my time there.
What are your favorite things to do when you’re not filming or working?
Outside of acting, I do a lot of singing and songwriting, as I am an artist myself with several original songs available on all music streaming platforms. I’m always in the studio recording or writing up a storm. I am also a working model, influencer, and content creator. I am very passionate about dancing, and my hobbies include working out, running, traveling, listening to music, watching movies, spending time with my friends and family, shopping, and taking pictures. I’m very active and love to try new activities, especially if they’re outdoors. My favorite place is the beach. If I could spend every day tanning, swimming, walking, and listening to music on the beach, I would!
How do you stay grounded and motivated in such a competitive field?
My faith has kept me grounded amid the fast-paced and often self-doubting entertainment industry. My faith has proven a testimony to me in so many ways throughout my life, but especially when it comes to all of my professional pursuits. My faith has served as a perfect example of what it means to banish all self-doubt and to fully rest in peace, reassured in your own humanity and being. The entertainment industry is a harsh world, and while you meet many great people along the way, it’s also filled with many people who aren’t who they claim to be. They will attempt to deceive you for their own benefit. My faith has shown me that I never need to compromise who I am or any of the morals or boundaries I have set for myself for an opportunity or door to open, for I know God has all of the right opportunities and lucky breaks right around the corner coming my way. I know all of the hard work I have put into making my dreams come true over the years, and I know that all of that hard work has not been hidden behind closed doors but rather done in silence, for I don’t need to prove myself to anyone or any opportunity, for God sees my true character and work ethic and will favor me for me. I don’t doubt my talents, as I know they were gifts given to me from the Most High as tools to bring others joy and leave my own unique positive impact on the world that is true to who I am. Being humble and staying in the right faith-based mindset has changed my life in so many ways for the better and has truly grounded and impacted not only how I see myself but also how I perceive my dreams within the entertainment industry.
What cause or movement are you most passionate about outside of acting?
I’ve been a proud partner with St. Jude for about three years now. St. Jude’s is committed to advancing cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through both research and treatment. I became involved with St. Jude’s when I began donating several school supplies a couple of years ago at a location near me. I walked into St. Jude’s only expecting to drop off my items and leave, but I left St. Jude’s with a whole lot more than I expected. I left St.
Jude’s with an abundance of love and a hope of healing. Seeing such bright smiles and how appreciative all of the patients were at St. Jude’s really touched my heart. It opened my eyes and changed my perspective as I witnessed how grateful the patients were for the same “ordinary” things we, as humans, take for granted every day. I felt surrounded by such love, strength, and perseverance that it inspired me to support their cause and become a part of a community and mission greater than myself.
What does a perfect day off look like for you?
Ooh, that sounds so good right now! A perfect day off either looks like listening to music while going for a run or walk outside, going to the gym, and hitting up a cute coffee shop, or it looks like spending the day with my friends or my mom shopping, getting manicures or pedicures, and finding a cute brunch spot to eat and catch up.
What are some upcoming projects you’re excited about?
I would love to tease several upcoming projects I’ve been working on; however, there’s not too much I am able to share at the moment. I would encourage any interested readers to follow me on social media to stay updated with any latest news I am able to share about both current and future projects I am working on!
Where do you see your career evolving over the next few years?
I see my career taking new heights in ways I would have never expected or imagined over the next few years. I’m really excited because this fall I’ll be taking a leap of faith and following my dreams by fully committing to moving to Los Angeles for school. Moving to LA has honestly been one of my biggest dreams for quite some time now. It’s a dream that’s been many years in the making. I had to put a pause on that dream year after year because of many factors, but the one primary factor was being financially unable to make it in the city. I’m very proud of myself for finally finding my way to make that dream come true for me. I am financially independent and pay for my own schooling and housing out of pocket, as well as everything you see me doing in my career, from releasing my own music to keeping all my portfolio materials, casting sites, and websites up to date. It’s a lot, but I’m committed to doing it all myself because I don’t want the easy way out. I want to truly work hard for everything I receive because I believe, as hard as it is and has been to do it myself while I’m still young, it feels the most rewarding and liberating to know it was all achieved by my hard work and determination to succeed in the end. It makes me not take anything for granted and truly appreciate everything because only I know how hard I worked behind the scenes of it all to make it possible. This fall I will be continuing
my studies in drama as a student at UCLA, and I couldn’t be more excited to be a Bruin. I see my career flourishing once I’m done with school and also while I’m in school, taking advantage of every opportunity that surrounds me to get my talents seen and heard. I see myself networking, building connections, and hopefully opening doors towards a bright future for myself in the entertainment industry as a performing artist. My next goals are to land my first televised commercial, commercial campaign, and guest star role in a TV series. Keep your eyes peeled for those dreams of mine coming true, because I’m working as hard as I can and knocking on every door until I achieve them.
If you could play any real-life figure in a biopic, who would it be and why?
That’s a really cool question. I don’t think anyone’s ever asked me that question before. Hmm, I guess it would be Shakira. I’m often told I resemble her from when she was young, and I also love to sing and dance.
Comedy or drama?
Ooh, that’s a tough one! If I absolutely had to choose one, I’d have to choose drama. I live for the suspense!
Most binge-worthy show you’ve watched lately?
The final season of YOU on Netflix! That show gave me chills in the best way! A director you’d drop everything to work with?
I’ve been saying this for years, but Kenny Ortega! He’s such a legend and has made so many classics that are so inspiring to watch. His work is the kind of work that goes on for the testament of time because it’s made with true heart and passion. I’d also love to work with Telsey Casting.
One role you wish you’d auditioned for?
Jenny Lind in The Greatest Showman, hands down! I’d also love to have auditioned for the role of Cruella in the live-action movie, but I feel that Emma Stone embodied that role so perfectly.
Favorite movie snack?
Is that even a question?! Popcorn, duh!
